Improperly disposed batteries contribute to water and air pollution. When depleted batteries are tossed into the trash, they end up in landfills where they decay and leak. As batteries corrode, their chemicals soak into soil and contaminate groundwater and surface water.

On May 4th 2023,  three members of Frisco & Plano branch sent battery collection notice on community group website. Many neighbors replied that they have some used batteries for pick up.  We arranged the pickup time and location.  We were able to collect many depleted household batteries and sorted them into two categories, rechargeable and one time use batteries.  We went to Home Depot and recycled the rechargeable batteries.  We plan to send the one time use batteries to Frisco Environment Collection Center.
