On Friday and Saturday, October 13th and 14th from 9AM to 5PM, we fundraised for the Children’s Medical Center in Plano at TMMTD Flea Market. Saturday was a stark contrast to the Flea Market on Friday, as there were way more people in the market. Additionally, there were a lot more people helping out in general. (Which was great! People got to take breaks every once in a while.) Though more people didn’t necessarily mean that it was more likely people would buy— it was kind of the opposite! It seemed mainly the elderly or young adult women and kids wanted the bracelets, while adult men usually just donated for the cause.
The process was simple. We sold mainly our gemstone bracelets, with around 3-4 people at the front helping sell them. There were also headbands (which kids particularly liked!), rings, charms, and soaps! Some people had the job of “replenishing” the supply, since every time a bracelet was sold, it had to be replaced with another. Other people would help collect the money and provide the change. We all would work together as a team. When people passed by, we introduced ourselves with, “Hi! We’re helping fundraise for kids with cancer in children’s hospitals, we’re selling 5-dollar gemstone bracelets, if you’d like to take a look?” and drew them in further with, “You can try them on if you’d like. This one is amazonite, this one is our bestseller!“ etc etc. People from the Flea Market enjoyed the purple, pink, and black bracelets (‘energy stones’) in particular — in return, they all helped support the children’s hospital!
