On December 9th, several ALYUS members volunteered to help out at the Dallas Chinese Fellowship Church, helping the staff there teach and play with the special needs kids. We ourselves were taught about how to communicate with the special needs kids and handle their issues, after which the kids watched various videos to exercise and sing along. There were less kids than last time, with many kids being sick, but that limited the chaos and allowed one staff or volunteer member per special needs kid. Partially because of this, everything went smoothly and there were little issues with the kids. After the kids exercised, they made hand art that they would later decorate with stickers and glued objects. Most of them didn’t require much assistance, and those who did eventually got it. We made cotton candy for both staff and kids to enjoy once the hand art was done, and although we bought balloons in advance, the various activities we already did was more than enough to entertain the kids and we brought the unused balloons back home. Overall it was a rather chill session, the kids were well behaved and everyone had a good time. We hope future sessions with the kids are just as good as the one today. Thank you to all who volunteered!
