Today is September 6 and during the Arts in Action event we mainly made bookmarks that will be sold in the future for fundraising. As we were making bookmarks, we had a sweet interaction with a lady who was visiting the library. She was really interested in what we were doing as she herself liked to collect bookmarks from places she traveled to. We talked to her for a bit, explaining what the bookmarks were for and about AYLUS’ mission. After the conversation we were even able to give her one of the bookmarks we made as a thanks for taking time to talk to us.

During this event, we also discussed ways to utilize the crayons and Legos we collected from the drives.  For the Legos we planned to first clean them before making them into some sort of set that we could then give away or sell or fundraising. For the crayons the main problem was that we needed some sort of packaging to hold the crayons. So in the last 10 minutes of the event, we took some recycled tissue box and started testing out ways to make a box. We came up with some really good starting ideas, but in the future plan to refine it and make some sort of instruction for making the box. By making the steps easier to understand we can allow other volunteer members to also start making boxes, so that we can ultimately gift out more crayons.

Overall today was very productive and in the future we will be implementing some of the ideas we came up with during this event.
