On the afternoon of October 13th, 2025, the AYLUS Frisco & Plano Branch held a donation ceremony event where $3,900 and 40 handmade crocheted hats were donated to Children’s Health Plano. Two Plano City Council members, Honorable Council member Chris Downs and Honorable Council member Bob Kehr, and a staff member of Children’s Health Plano, Leonor Salgado, were invited to attend the AYLUS donation ceremony.

In order to raise the $3,900 to be donated, volunteers participated in various fundraising events where they sold various goods and services. For example, volunteers would do face painting and would also sell balloon art, bracelets, popcorn and cotton candy in order to raise money for donation. After many fundraising events, volunteers’ hard work paid off, and the AYLUS Frisco & Plano Branch raised $3,900 for donation to Children’s Health Plano.

On the other hand, in order to handmake 40 hats for donation, volunteers took part in Loops For Love events. At these events, volunteers learned how to crochet hats from more experienced AYLUS members and then crocheted their own hats for donation. After a lot of hard work, a total of 40 hats were crocheted for donation. Great work volunteers!

Two Plano City Council members, Honorable Council member Chris Downs and Honorable Council member Bob Kehr, and a staff member of Children’s Health Plano, Leonor Salgado, were invited to attend the AYLUS donation ceremony. At the event, volunteers set up the ceremony location and provided water and light snacks for the volunteers, guests, and parents.

At the event, volunteers set up the ceremony location and provided water and light snacks for the volunteers, guests, and parents. The event started off with a brief introduction to the AYLUS Frisco & Plano Branch and a description of what kind of activities and projects AYLUS is involved in and what AYLUS has already achieved. Afterwards, Honorable Council members Chris Downs and Bob Kehr gave brief speeches about the importance of volunteering and the impact of community service, encouraging the volunteers to continue their volunteering. In addition, Children’s Health staff member Leonor Salgado spoke briefly about the positive impact that the Loops For Love project has had, thanking AYLUS for all of their hard work and donations to Children’s Health.

Afterwards, AYLUS volunteers asked Plano City council members questions about how to expand their goals and help more of the community. The City council members also gave “kind” as a word to direct the volunteers’ future volunteering efforts, further encouraging them to continue to do good by giving back to their community through volunteering. Overall, the event was a resounding success, with both a large donation to Children’s Health Plano and the volunteers being encouraged by the words of the City council members.
