On October 11th, 9 AYLUS volunteers set up their stand at Russell Creek Park. They sold cotton candy, shaved ice, lemonade, and popcorn and divided the duties amongst themselves. There were also balloons, however they served better as decoration. All proceeds went to the Plano Children’s Medical Center. Two volunteers were new to volunteering at the park and were taught how to make cotton candy – a job they quickly got the hang of and really enjoyed. The new volunteers also bonded with the rest of the volunteers and got to know them. Surprisingly—without much advertising, there were a lot of customers! So much so that the volunteers nearly got overwhelmed with requests—but, they pushed through and worked hard to make sure every person got their order. They worked for 2 and a half hours – a half hour longer than usual because there were still a lot of customers by the time we were supposed to close – straight: from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. By the end of the event, they raised over a hundred dollars! Good work, volunteers!
