On October 26th, seven AYLUS Volunteers set up their stand at Russell Creek Park to fundraise for the Plano Children’s Medical Center. This would be their last at Russell Creek for the year; winter was going to come soon, as evidenced by the rainstorm the day prior. As expected, that evening was chilly, and less people decided to come to the park. Even so, those who came could enjoy the cotton candy, shaved ice, popcorn, lemonade, and bottled water we provided. Jewelry was sold on the side as well, as well as the big balloons (which one would assume to just be decoration, but they were on sale too). Dividing the work up amongst the group, the volunteers made sure to attend to the needs of the customers from 6:30 PM until the event concluded at 8:30 PM. Many customers bought several things at a time—two popcorns and a lemonade for example. In fact, popcorn was a surprisingly popular item that day. One of the balloons was sold, too! Newer volunteers also learned how to make cotton candy, which will be useful in the future when we return to Russell Creek. The volunteers have worked hard fundraising this year, and have raised thousands for the hospital. What an achievement! Amazing job, volunteers, for the good work you’ve done at Russell Creek park—both on the 26th, and this whole year.
